Surprising to say the least. My guess is Murray wanted him out of the locker room and couldn't find a trade good enough to be worth the recapture penalty.

I don't have a problem with it, the cap hit down the road could very be costly. Sucks that we couldn't get anything for him but the risk of $4M of cap lost in 3 or 4 years was a bit worrisome.

The funniest outcome would be to finish 30th either way and another team win the lottery.

Could he be traded maybe, but the recapture made it unlikely. I commend Tim Murray on being hardliner. If you don't want to be here then don't let the door hit you in the A$$ on the way out. Players that want to be part of the solution welcome aboard.

From the last blog:

Darcy gave him that insanely long contract no? You won't "thank" Darcy for that but yet you are giving Murray crap for making a decision but not calling him a decision maker. Gotcha
- Stripes77

Have we seen the results of this decision or any one that he's made yet? No, we absolutely have not. He hasn't been employed long enough. He has absolutely no track record as the man in charge. That's all I'm trying to say.

And Ehrhoff's contract is just fine numbers wise. Sure, it's long, but the money isn't insane. It's the recapture penalty put in after the fact that makes it look bad. People want to call the NHL a second rate league for adjusting some lottery odds. It's rules like this that make it more of a second rate league.

If Moulson really wanted to come back here, I wonder what he's thinking now with the Ehrhoff buyout. It's gonna take a huge sales pitch to get any UFA's to come here now.

Seeing as we will most likely have less than a 25% chance of winning the lottery if/when we finish 30th, I would say that is likely to happen. On that, have they published the new percentages yet?

If you're a free agent, and want to come here now, winning is not your #1 priority, even before this move. It's a catch-22. You don't want that type of attitude in your locker room, but you also have no choice because nobody that wants to win is going to want to come here. The Sabres are going to have to give quite a few players money they don't deserve.

Ehrhoff isn't their best player. Myers is.

it's a rule that was needed, though...there was plenty of cap circumvention with only the devils getting tagged...
the contract was awesome...the timing was off through no fault of regier

If Christian Ehrhoff is your teams best player you have more problems than worrying about what an 18 year old newly drafted player thinks.

It's going to take a lot of it to get them here but Pegula could pull it off. We shall see.
